Glutathione
Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant — a tripeptide (three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine, glycine) found in virtually every cell. It neutralizes free radicals, detoxifies toxins, recycles vitamins C and E, and supports immune function. Plasma levels decline 30-40% with age.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Glutathione's sulfhydryl group donates electrons to neutralize reactive oxygen species (free radicals). It conjugates toxins via Glutathione S-transferase for liver excretion (Phase II detoxification) and recycles other antioxidants. The unique gamma peptide bond protects it from degradation by most enzymes.
